Ready Set, Set: Intermediate Stone Setting Part 2

In Blue, Green, & Sterling Silver:

Learn how to create small cluster arrangements while developing layout and setting techniques. In this class, students will practice preparing 4mm bezel cups to fabricate a 3 stone cluster ring.

This workshop is designed for students who already have proficiency in basic metalsmithing experience (3 classes minimum) and are ready to expand their stone setting skills.

Techniques Covered:

  • Layout and spacing for 4mm cabochons

  • Adjusting stone seats with setting burs

  • Bezel setting with bezel punches and burnishers

  • Precision filing and finishing techniques

  • Surface refinement and polishing

  • Sample practice: flush setting in copper

Materials:

  • 4mm green and blue cabochon stones: Lapis Lazuli, Amazonite, Aventurine, Chrysoprase, Jade.

  • 5.5mm wide sterling silver ring blank

  • Flush setting: faceted stones and copper

  • All tools/equipment included

Skill Level:
Intermediate. Prior metalsmithing experience required. Students should be comfortable with soldering and fabrication techniques.

Schedule:
This class is 6 hours total, divided into two sessions. *This class includes two complimentary 2 hour DROP-IN sessions.

What You’ll Leave With:
A finished ring featuring a 3 stone bezel cluster and a sample of flush setting a faceted stone.

From here, use your complimentary drop-in hours to practice these more advanced metalsmithing skills.
